The strategic advisory meeting of the Zhenhua Green Transition and Sustainable Development Fund (hereafter “Zhenhua Fund”) under the China Environmental Protection Foundation was held in Beijing on May 11, 2025. Xie Zhenhua, China’s former Special Envoy for Climate Change, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Representatives attending the meeting included strategic advisory experts of the Zhenhua Fund; Xu Guang, Chairman of the China Environmental Protection Foundation; Liu Chunlong, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General; Wang Zhengang, Deputy Secretary-General; and members of the Zhenhua Team.

The meeting heard reports on the fund management, project progress, and next steps of the Zhenhua Fund. The National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC) and Zhejiang Economic Information Center respectively reported on the planning and research of the "2024-2025 Project Framework" and "Local Capacity Building for Climate Action" project.

Attending experts fully affirmed the current achievements of the Zhenhua Fund and engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions regarding the Fund’s positioning and core work, offering valuable opinions and suggestions.
Xie Zhenhua fully acknowledged the Fund’s current results and provided three strategic directives:
Establish a multilateral dialogue platform, using the China-U.S. "Sunnylands Statement" as a foundation to deepen civilian climate dialogue mechanisms between China and the U.S., China and Europe, China-Japan-South Korea, and with Global South countries.
Build exemplary demonstration projects that deeply integrate environmental goals with new quality productive forces, forming replicable models of local green transition practices.
Launch a specialized talent development program, collaborating with universities to cultivate young leaders in climate change and build an international talent pool for sustainable development.
He emphasized focusing on cutting-edge areas like zero-carbon islands and ASEAN mangroves conservation, strengthening cross-sectoral expert collaboration and innovation.

Xu Guang, Chairman of the China Environmental Protection Foundation, delivered a statement expressing sincere gratitude for the suggestions put forward by Xie Zhenhua and the experts. He expressed hope to fully utilize the Foundation’s platform in the future to unite the strength of civil society organizations and amplify their voice on the international stage.
Finally, Secretary-General Liu Chunlong stated that the requirements set by Xie Zhenhua for the Zhenhua Fund would be earnestly implemented. Efforts will continue to advance high-quality, sustainable projects in the three key areas of platform building, exemplary demonstrations, and talent cultivation. The goal is to continuously expand the Fund’s brand influence and provide momentum for accelerating green transition and sustainable development in China and globally.
