The First Strategic Consultation Meeting of the ＂Zhenhua Green Transformation and Sustainable Development Fund＂ Successfully Convened in Beijing

Recently, the first strategic consultation meeting of the "Zhenhua Green Transformation and Sustainable Development Fund", initiated by Mr. Xie Zhenhua and the China Environmental Protection Foundation(CEFP), was successfully held in Beijing. The meeting reviewed the preparation progress for the establishment of the fund, approved its charter, and engaged in in-depth discussions and explorations regarding the future developing direction and key initiatives of the fund.

Mr. Xie Zhenhua, former China Special Envoy for Climate Change Affairs, Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, and initiator of the fund, highly appreciated the preparatory work of the fund and expressed great expectations for its future development. He suggested that the fund should focus on supporting forward-looking, innovative, and international dialogues, advanced research, and pilot practices in addressing climate change and green sustainable development. He particularly emphasized the cultivation and exchange of talents among the younger generation in climate change response. He advocated for mobilizing support and participation from enterprises and various sectors of society, aiming to establish an international cooperation platform for ecological environmental protection that is green, open, and shared among domestic and international stakeholders.

Furthermore, he hoped that the fund would achieve sustainable development, gradually establish its own brand image with an open and pragmatic approach, and earn trust and support from all sectors of society.

Mr. Liu Chunlong, Secretary-General of CEPF stated that the inaugural strategic consultation meeting has laid a solid foundation for the successful launch of the fund. In the future, the fund will focus on forward-looking and innovative ecological environmental issues both domestically and internationally. It aims to build an international, multi-level dialogue and cooperation platform for international and domestic enterprises, think tanks, civil society organizations, and local governments. The fund aims to support innovative solutions to environmental protection issues such as climate change, striving to become a participant, promoter, and leader in accelerating green transformation and sustainable development in China and globally.

Under the guidance and support of Mr. Xie Zhenhua, CEPF has established the “Zhenhua Green Transformation and Sustainable Development Fund” with the entire Nobel Prize money from The Sustainability Award donated as seed funding. The fund is dedicated to projects addressing climate change, synergizing biodiversity conservation and pollution prevention and control, aiming to accelerate green transformation and sustainable development in China and globally, and to build a global community of shared future for all life on Earth.

The inaugural strategic consultation meeting was chaired by Mr. Wang Yi, member of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress(NPC), Deputy Director of the National Climate Change Expert Committee, and professor at the Institute of Science and Technology Strategy Consultation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Representatives from relevant departments of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment(MEE), the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation(NCSC), China Three Gorges Corporation, Alibaba Foundation, as well as supporting organizations from both domestic and international sectors, attended the meeting.
